In this month, very fortunately, I got a chance to write a short column-article for the ""OUT"" that is America's well-known gay-magazine, the most wide spread in the world, circulated over 200,000 copies every month. ・ It's my very first-time, of course, but on the other hand, I got remember a far memory of long ago when I was in my teens, writing a silly short-joke-story mentioned about gayness, for a Japanese 『アニメ雑誌』 ( or anime = animation magazine ) known as 『アウト』 ( or OUT ), the very same name of the American gay magazine unexpectedly. I like to express my thanks to Megumi-Kikuraku-san for acting medeation between editor of ""OUT"" and I, Maruyama Tenoru, also suggesting me to write the column-article. She is a Japanese, living in New York city and working for a publishing company dealing Japan's ""Yaoi-anime-manga"" translated into English. Kikuraku-san's weblog / DEEEEEP! NEW YORK! 2009 ( Language; Japanese) Even Kikuraku-san is a straight lady, she has many gay friends in New York City. Oh ! That's great ! Probabaly, I think one of her closer gay friends is the editor of ""OUT"", then she helped his arrangement for the feature articles about Tokyo's gay scene on November issue. Also, I have to give my deep thankfulness to an editor of ""OUT"" for allowing me to write this column, below.
Yukio Mishima(三島由紀夫), well-known Japanese novelist was a gay. A few years before "the Stonewall Riots", Mishima visited New York city, and once he tried to open the door of Stonewall Inn. He was looking for a nice American sex-partner at the time, so he put special white jacket on his well-trained mustle body to appeal it's sexy. Then, Mishima, Japan's histrical novelist was refused to get into the gay-bar, because of his race, even though he explained what he was, and how high his status was, many times. I dimly remember Yuji-Kitamaru-san, a Japanese Gay Journalist in NY city, once wrote like above, somewhere on the internet. Sorry, but not sure. Finally in 1970, the next year of "the Stonewall Riots", Mishima committed "hara-kiri" suicide in protest against a timidness of Japanese self-defence-force's political attitude, not against a refusal at the entrance of Stonewall Inn. Anyway, here may be disturbed by a bit of mis-understanding and preconceptions about each other, between American gays and Japanese gays. I don't know. ――It's just ""may be"". Here may be also clear differences of "how I wanna enjoy" among each of us, weakening our man-to-man relationships. About a typical Japanese gay's happiness, I say he would like to sit on a counter chair, to drink and sing karaoke whole night with chattering gay friends, in a small space of gay-bar. At the same time, if I talk something about American or other foriegn gays' favorite, it must be at the great dancing club with hard musics and beats. That's the rave night what they want. I guess American gays will encounter Japanese life-cultures instead of one night's sex partners, through their explorations of Tokyo's gay-bars which foreigners wouldn't go. If you have been interested in sorts of those matter, try to come into gay-bars in Tokyo which foreigners wouldn't go, learning a few of Japanese easy words and familiar sentences, plucking up your courage a little, too. When you feel tired of that, you should better enjoy at some international gay-bars recommended on my column-article of ""OUT"". There, at some international gay-bars, many Japanese gays who have good English skill, and who love American or Euro gays so much from a center of heart, waiting for your appearances and for making ""good-things"". Wooow ! Sounds ""terrific"". Your first special Japan tour should not be overworked.
